WASC UPDATE
WHERE ARE WE IN THE PROCESS?
We have completed our school and community profile along with our Mission Statement and Student Learner Outcomes (SLO’s), we Have posted the information around the school buildings and classrooms and are working to ensure that all students are aware of our mission and vision and what we want all students to know and learn by attending ICAS.
WHAT’S NEXT?
The Self-Study process- We are using our assessment data which includes: CASAS, E-Testing, CAHSEE, GED results to determine how we can continue to improve our programs. We are gathering ADA, and enrolment data to examine our status, and we are gathering information from all stakeholders to determine what the community’s perception of the Adult School is. All of this information will be utilized to compile our self-study which will be presented to WASC.
Your Involvement is crucial to our success
Accreditation is awarded to an entire school – not administration, not an individual program. Whether you teach concurrent students in the high school program, are a classified staff member, or a part-time employee, the visiting team will be looking for three things:
School-wide collaboration in the process, (2) A focus on student success and (3) Quality of the programs. We also need to fully involve all stakeholders. That means our students, the businesses, educational institutions, and the community as a whole.
“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.”
-Henry Ford
GLOSSARY
Accreditation: is a type of quality assurance process under which services and operations of educational institutions are evaluated by an external body to determine if applicable standards are met. If standards are met, accredited status is granted by the agency.
Collaboration: is working together to achieve a goal by sharing knowledge, learning and building consensus
Stakeholder: a person, group, organization, or system who affects or can be affected by an organization’s actions. ICAS stakeholders are our students, staff, district, board members and the community at large
WASC: The Western Association of Schools and colleges
ADA: Average Daily Attendance – the total number of student hours divided by 525. This is how the school reports student attendance to the California Department of Education.
