About Payne Elementary School

Beulah Payne Elementary School was the first California Distinguished School in the Inglewood Unified School District (1997). To this day, Payne continues to carry on the tradition of high academic achievement for all students. Currently, our 2009 API is 801! The state has determined that a school with a score of 800 or above is meeting the states expectations.

A Title I Academic Achievement School

In the spring of 2009, Payne was also honored with a Title I Academic Achievement. This prestigious award was only awarded to 200 schools throughout the entire state. The Title I Academic Achievement Program recognizes schools that are demonstrating success in ensuring that all students are making significant progress toward proficiency on California’s academic content standards.

Academic Excellence

Payne School is highly committed to academic excellence and the social well-being of every child. We hold high expectations of ourselves as teaching professionals and of students as learners. We believe all children at Payne Elementary can learn to their full potential! Through collaboration and data analysis, the staff is working hard to identify areas of improvement. Writing, vocabulary building and comprehension are areas of major focus for data driven discussions and instruction and professional development.

Parent & Community Involvement

At Payne School, we seek to build strong partnerships with parents and the community. Our belief is that students learn more when parents are involved in their education and school. Payne parents, support children in many ways from volunteering in classrooms to serving on Payne’s many committees, including the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), English Language Advisory Council and School Site Council.
