About Us
City Honors High School will culminate their first day of instruction with a Grand Re-opening Ceremony to celebrate its conversion to an Inglewood Unified School District dependent charter school. Known for its rigorous curriculum, outstanding test scores, and community college dual enrollment options, City Honors High School is listed in U.S. News and World Report as one of the best high schools in the nation. Along with a six year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), students can expect an increase to their overall program with the expansion of AP classes, eight additional advanced placement courses, and more classes at the community college level.
City Honors’ conversion to a charter high school had been a topic of discussion in years past, but through increased support from PTA parents and dialogue with new Superintendent of Schools Gary McHenry, City Honors will extend their innovative learning practices as an added benefit to both students and staff alike. McHenry expects that dependent charter status will ultimately provide the flexibility necessary to build upon the educational program previously established.
Dependent Charter Schools are authorized by and accountable to the local Board of Education and in order to operate, must submit plans every five years. The design plans, or “Charter,” explain the philosophy and goals, core beliefs, curricula, operations, and budget. Plans for City Honors were assessed and recommended by the administration of Inglewood Unified School District and approved with a unanimous vote by the Board of Education.
City Honors College Preparatory Charter School, located in Inglewood, California, serves grades 9-12 in the Inglewood Unified School District.
