About Inglewood High School Visual/Performing Arts Business Entertainment Academy
The Visual/Performing Arts Business Entertainment Academy is committed to providing an academically rigorous, comprehensive, standards based curriculum which integrates art for all students in a supportive environments that nurtures creativity and talent. We believe in meeting the needs of students by providing students with opportunities for both support and enrichment.
Students may pursue majors in instrumentals, music, vocal music, theater, Dance, Drama, and Visual Arts. As a career academy, we provide ample opportunities for exposure to work experiences in the Arts, Training pathways in performance and entertainment business, and pathways to post secondary education in the arts. We believe all children ca succeed and strive to promote this philosophy throughout our school.
Major Achievements
- Inglewood High School offers a variety of programs to all students including honors classes; Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), a program that encourages college attendance; and Advanced Placement classes.
- The English Language Intensive Literacy Program is offered to our English Learners. SHAPE, a UCLA tutorial program, and core curriculum after school programs are offered to our Title I students and any students needing assistance.
- Inglewood High School has received WASC accreditation certification through 2011.
Focus for Improvement
- Continue to use rigorous standards-based instruction in the classrooms with ongoing formative and end of- unit assessments throughout the year, measuring students’ ongoing growth. We met our API and our student test scores are increasing every year.
- Continue to implement university tutors in the classroom and provide after school tutoring services for every child.
- Continue to analyze and use student data to drive our instruction.
- Place a strong emphasis on our math program and its instructional practices. Provide the services of a math coach and perform deeper analysis of students’ performance.
- Full implementation of “professional learning communities” among teachers to improve student achievement.
- Embed student performance data in everyday instructional practices to improve student academic performance.
- Increase parent involvement and teacher-parent contact to improve student academic performance.
