Morningside Accepting Applications For New Magnet Programs
The Inglewood Unified School District proudly announces two new Magnet Programs offered at Morningside High School. The Magnet Construction Academy, and the Health, Science and Math Magnet Programs are designed to increase the number of college-ready high school graduates.
The programs will also improve student’s post secondary options, whether those options are college, technical training or entering the work force. The Health, Science and Math Magnet Program is designed to provide district students with advanced skill development in the areas of health, science and mathematics.
The program offers two options that students can select from which include a Health/Science curriculum or a Math/Science curriculum. Both programs involve a rigorous instructional process with committed, enthusiastic, teaching professionals who are experts in their subject field and have only the highest of expectations for their students.
In addition to elective courses related to their magnet field, Honors and Advanced Placement courses will be offered to all grade levels for students who qualify. Graduates who successfully complete the program will more than meet the requirements for both the University of California and California State University systems.
MHS Magnet Programs
The Magnet Construction Academy will present students with the opportunity to enter the construction industry and all its related fields as an option after graduation.
The program offers a rigorous, hands-on curriculum that prepares students to readily transition into world of work. Students are taught 21st century skills that prepare them to succeed in post secondary education, the workplace and in life. The academy has many unique features that will provide students with expertise and proficiency in a variety of technical trade areas including construction, roof framing, cabinetry, rough framing, interior sub crafts and residential wiring to name a few.
The academy is partnered with California State University Dominguez Hills, College of Extended & International Education that offers students in the program a modified
Course in OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500). Additionally, students have the option to apply for concurrent enrollment through SoCalROC, a Career Technical Education training facility that represents the cooperative efforts of school districts in the South Bay. Current courses available to students include Computer Aided Drafting (Basic and Advanced), Plumbing, Welding, and Major Appliance Repair.
All students will be expected to master the California State Standards and Magnet School students will be challenged to extend their knowledge of those standards as well as obtaining important skills to advance placement. For more information regarding either one of these programs,
